ESSENTIAL
OIL of Fragonia
The whole aromatherapy
community is excited by the arrival a new discovery in the local
botanical world. This new plant is called Agonis fragrans,
commercially available in the form of Fragonia essential oil. It is
being extensively cultivated in western Australia at Harvey, south
of Perth by John and Peta Day.
The discovery of
Fragonia is welcome as it coincides with the decline of the Tea
Tree. It has similar properties to the Tea tree, however with a
wonderful scent and a palatable taste it proves to be an effective
anti infectious, anti bacterial EO. Fragonia was studied at the
University of Perth from a bacteriological perspective.
Fragonia has
undergone intensive clinical research also by Dr. Daniel Penoel, an
internationally renowned professor and medical doctor who
specialises in this field. With thirty years in the industry he has
worked closely with Pierre Franchomme and has brought a great deal
of resources to the essential oil market place. Dr Penoel was
introduced to Fragonia by Mark Webb a lecturer and writer when he
took a tour to France in 2004. Mark is well known for his book “BushSense”
The scientific
research in Fragonia reveals that its properties are anti-microbial,
anti-inflammatory, analgesic, expectorant and immune enhancing and
lends it’self to long term use. Dr Penoel says “the role of this
holistically balanced oil of Fragonia is not merely to kill the bugs
or keep them at bay it works on a much deeper level and is endowed
with the capacity to release deep seated emotional blockages due to
it’s capacity to exert a deep action on the psyche.
As reported in the
“Simply Essential” the June 2006 Journal of the International
Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) Dr Penoel seeks for us to
understand that the ratio of the
molecular families of Fragonia and the proportions between the
molecules are arranged according to the “golden proportion”.
Besides, because this golden proportion is reproduced at several
levels, we obtain the picture of the structure that is known in
modern physics as a fractal. To have in a single EO, at the
same time, the golden proportion and the fractal structure is
absolutely unique! He has never come across on essential oil
before that has this amazing power of harmonization and rebalancing
despite the hundreds of oils he has worked with.
Desiree Latour,
aromatherapist and tutor at The Aromatherapy College of Australia
reports that some of Fragonia’s uses include relief from muscle pain
and aches, respiratory problems, digestive disorders and allergies
due to yeast infection, as an immune tonic in all cases of
infectious diseases. It also has application in stress-related
problems and mental illness because of its effect of creating
balance in the body and mind.
Karen Wallwork a
therapist and researcher from Talking Scents has had great success
with the hydrosol of Fragonia chronic tonsillitis and bronchial
conditions. Karen has ongoing clinical trials in other areas of
interest including womens health.
